The Iconic King of the Monsters Returns
The iconic king of the monsters is back, scarier than ever. Toho has released the first trailer for Godzilla: Minus One, their first Godzilla movie in seven years.
History of Godzilla
Back in 1954, Godzilla was introduced to the world in Toho’s pioneering movie, marking the genesis of a franchise that has shaped pop culture for decades. The monster soon became the second most iconic cinematic creature, after King Kong.
Nearly 70 years and 32 Toho movies later, including frightening titans like King Kong, Hedorah, Mothra, Gigan, Megalon, Mechagodzilla, SpaceGodzilla, Destoroyah, and Megaguirus, Godzilla remains a timeless phenomenon. One notable movie is the 2016 Shin Godzilla, a successful epitome of the terrifying city-engulfing narrative.
The First Trailer of the New Godzilla Movie
After seven years, Toho promises more destruction in the new live-action Godzilla movie, Minus One. The first trailer of Godzilla: Minus One truly portrays an unforgettable image of chaos.
Opening with a haze of shrieks, siren wails and a city in disarray - the trailer cleverly hides the plot, revealing only that the movie is set in post-war Japan. The city appears torn apart by bombings and Godzilla's devastating path of destruction, hinting at an extinction-level event following Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Visuals of a horrifically burnt Godzilla promise unprecedented fear and awe.
About the Movie
Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Minus One is set to premiere in Japan on November 3. The US release date is scheduled for December 1. This date celebrates 69 years since the first Godzilla movie.
Viewers' Reaction
Reactions to the trailer were overwhelmingly positive. Viewers admired the terrifyingly authentic portrayal of Godzilla and the drama set on the backdrop of post-war Japan. The movie seems to project the monsters's destructive capacity at its fullest yet, evoking feelings of childhood fear among die-hard Godzilla fans.
