The player could have pacified Scratch with the Animal Friendship spell, but unfortunately, at this moment, the player was out of spell slots. This left the player with the distasteful option of either fighting back against Scratch or trying to flee. Upon attempting to escape, the player discovered that their non-party companions had also turned hostile.

The Resolution

Ultimately, the player sought to resolve the issue by loading a previous save point, which resulted in losing about an hour and a half of gameplay progress.

A Positive Viewpoint

While the experience was unpleasant, some positive sentiment came from it as well. The player and other game communities admired the way their camp companions rallied to defend Scratch, showing unexpected loyalties. The players might bear the responsibility of standing up to a mindflayer invasion, but it's clear that characters, even ones with violent tendencies, wouldn't tolerate offenses against the camp's best boy.
