The game, inspired by DnD, allows players to develop romantic relationships with the numerous characters they encounter throughout the story. This aspect is especially prominent in Baldur’s Gate 3, where characters often express a desire for deeper, more intimate relationships with the player.
One Player’s Tragic Misstep
However, one player discovered the dangers of navigating these complex romantic dynamics in a dramatic, tragic way. They accidentally instigated a fatal sequence, resulting in the death of Astarion while attempting to pursue Lae’Zel.
The journey began innocently enough. The player, opting to romantically engage with Lae’Zel, was awakened in the middle of the night by the eager character. Despite the brewing romance, the rest of the party was awakened to the sounds of a fight. Only Astarion, who had fallen into a deep sleep, was oblivious to the escalating tensions. Just when the action came to a critical point, Astarion awoke and unwittingly stepped into the path of an incoming attack meant for the player.
Regrettably, Astarion was not able to survive the misfortune and collapsed next to the player's bedroll. However, Lae'Zel nor the player allowed this unexpected disaster to interrupt the progression of their relationship. Unperturbed by Astarion’s demise, they continued on their path of love.
The Consequence of Miscalculation
This unfortunate twist serves as a cautionary tale about the complexities of the game and the potential dangers of not calculating each move and interaction carefully. For Astarion, his untimely demise served as an unwitting sacrifice in advancing the player's romantic odyssey with Lae'Zel. His character will certainly be missed in the game, at least by those who did not inadvertently cause his downfall.
