Baldur’s Gate 3 Director Moves on to New Project
Following the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3, the game's Director, Swen Vincke, has revealed that he has already moved on to his next project. Baldur’s Gate 3 launched explosively, becoming one of the most successful PC launches in history, and is set to release on PS5 soon, extending its reach to a larger audience.
Director's next move
In a recent video interview on the Dungeons & Dragons YouTube channel, Vincke revealed that with the console launch, he was essentially “done” with the game. While his team will take care of any post-release patches, like the recent fix to Karlach’s ending, he is diverting his attention towards a different project. Although Vincke remained tight-lipped about the specifics, it’s evident that he has a new game planned.
Vincke's cryptic hint about the new project
Talking about the new project started when the interviewer, Todd Kenreck, asked Vincke about currently inspiring works of fiction. “You’re actually asking me about my next game, so I’m not going to answer that,” responded Vincke cryptically. He emphasized that with the console editions of Baldur’s Gate 3 nearing their shipping date, he is stepping back from the title. “The PS5 version is shipping, we’ve just uploaded it, so I’m done. I’m going to move on to the next game,” stated Vincke.
The continuation of Baldur’s Gate 3
Vincke added that while he was finished with Baldur’s Gate 3, work on the title is not over. “Fans will come to us and they will say ‘We need this, this, and this’. That’s all coming but it will be the team who delivers it,” he explained. While he plans to take a short break, Vincke has had the next game he wants to develop in his mind “for some time now”. “You’ve been working towards this thing and then it’s like ‘hey I’ve reached this point, now what?’ and so you have to start again,” concluded Vincke.
Anticipation for a new game from Larian Studios
The anticipation for a new game from Larian Studios is high. Although Vincke mentioned his passion for fantasy and sci-fi, he noted that he is very particular about his entertainment. Whether this means the next title is set in space is yet to be known. Regardless, fans can rest assured that it will be crafted from quality material. However, considering that Baldur’s Gate 3 spent six years in development, the new project will likely be a while off.
